A work request is received from a customer and is assigned to you. ( From another dept or your own). You work on the assignment for a period of time and are running into some roadblocks due to the lack of tools and/or training. This particular task is not new to you, but the process in which it is done is somewhat different. Working on this assignment will give you a chance to learn something new and is beneficial to you regarding career enhancement. You have already asked your peers for assistance and they are not familiar with it either.
You have made your supervisor aware of what you are working on, and he/she does not appear to have an issue with you spending time on it. After a few days of work, you feel you have spent a reasonable amount of time on the assignment, pulling from your knowledge in the subject, pulling from the resources and tools available to you.
This assignment is not out of your normal scope of work and is considered part of your essential functions. You have other assignments as well and do not want to get too far behind on your work.
You ask your supervisor for some additional assistance. He/she tells you they will get back you with an answer when they find something out.
A period of time passes and when you go to follow up with your supervisor, you happen to find out that he/she has set up a meeting with a vendor that has the knowledge and tools to help you with what you are working on. You were not invited to or included in this meeting. You were not notified that a meeting had been arranged.
You also gain knowledge that a co-worker was asked to attend the meeting. This person had no involvement in what you had been working on and not really any hands on experience in the process.
What would be your initial feelings / reactions?
What steps would you take?
